Hello! Welcome to our internal runbooks
You should be able to find everything you need on the sidebar, but I'll answer some common questions and link to things here too. While this is intended for runbooks, feel free to use it for any other internal-facing documentation.
Why isn't this in the handbook?
Good question! We try to be as open as we can, but there are some things that just don't make sense to share publicly. For example, sharing the layout of our internal network, our AWS account IDs, how to access production things, etc.
While security by obscurity is not something we should rely on, it is nice as an additional layer! Being able to make the assumption that the reader is a PostHog employee means we can be much more explicit with our guidance, and provide links/scripts to copy + paste.
How do I access the VPN?
We use Tailscale! See the docs page.
How do I update or add to these runbooks?
Go to the PostHog runbooks repo on GitHub, and make a pull request. Once it's merged, it will be deployed automatically. You can find the repo and readme outlining how to contribute here: https://github.com/posthog/runbooks
